Community Development Institute

The Community Development Institute Central offers an educational and training experience, coupled with graduate degree credit if desired, in which a person can develop knowledge and skills to facilitate community and economic development.

Created in 1987, the Community Development Institute Central is a program endorsed by the Community Development Council, the national certification organization, and consists of three one-week long series of seminars that offer a comprehensive curriculum of professional knowledge and skills in community and economic development and capacity building.

The Institute focuses on building alliances and infrastructures to increase a community's economic and social growth by expanding an individual's ability to identify community and economic problems, set goals, encourage liaisons with outside agencies, simulate community interaction, and bring groups together to respond to a wide range of economic and quality of life issues.

The Institute's faculty consists of corporate, academic, and governmental development professionals throughout the United States. Information is delivered through various formats including a combination of lecture-conference, small group discussions, simulations, and individual projects. The focus is on active rather than passive learning.

Who Should Attend?

The Institute's curriculum is designed to meet the needs of chambers of commerce, private and public sector community and economic development organizations, utility companies, planners, banks, extension services, municipal and county officials, community leaders and groups, or anyone with an interest in community and economic development.
